Millions of people bet on sports every day and losses are not uncommon here. After all, in betting a person plays against a pool of players who bet on the outcome opposite to his bet. So if one side wins, the other side loses. How much to win (and, accordingly, how much to lose), the bettor chooses on his own. Most are limited to quite reasonable amounts, but sometimes real epic fails happen:
#1 A player who vehemently cheered for the Spanish “Barcelona” bet 35 thousand pounds on the victory of his favorite team with odds of 1.07. At the same time, the coefficient for the victory of the second team (Real Sociedad) was 8.1. Barcelona lost, and with it this unfortunate fan.
#2 A fan from Russia made a bet on the favorite (+1.5 handicap) in the amount of 66 thousand dollars. As a result, this favorite conceded 4 goals and lost by a monstrous margin.
#3 A student from the UK made an accumulator of 14 events, and each of them played. As a result, the guy won more than $1 million. But he never received the win, because when he came to pick it up, it turned out that he made a bet on a different coupon – one additional condition was not met, namely the mandatory goals of the teams.
#4 In 2001, a player made a bet equal to the value of his house. It was an English Premier League match between Tottenham and Manchester United. He bet on Tottenham to win before the start of the second half when the score was 3-0 in her favor. As a result, the team lost with a score of 3:5, and the fan lost his house in less than an hour.
#5 During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a German fan bet 500,000 euros on his country’s national team to reach the final. He was so sure of this outcome. As you know, the Spanish team beat the German team, and the bet of half a million euros lost because of a single goal scored.
The pattern is obvious: if you make rash bets, in the heat of the moment or under the influence of personal sympathies, then a fiasco is inevitable. Learn from the mistakes of others and don’t take the same deliberately failed steps.
